Hairstyle Appreciation Day?

Yes, you’re not dreaming. There is indeed, a Hairstyle Appreciation Day, celebrated on the 30th of April. Why not? It’s not like having a haircut is simply about having your hair cute anymore, is it? Years of living in the city and being constantly exposed to the world of celebrities and fashion tell me that everything has a whole new different meaning now than in the previous years. Clothes are not just for merely keeping yourself warm during the cold season or being comfortable. Makeup is not just for having some color in your pale cheeks. And hairstyles are definitely not just about trimming your hair to make it more manageable.

Today, hairstyle, as well as clothes, makeup and other things we only deemed necessity in the past, is also a statement of our personality, of who we are. We have taken in to a whole new level and made ourselves believe that having the perfect haircut or wearing colorful and funky clothes are a representation of who we are.

There is of course an upside and downside to it. The upside is that having a hairstyle that we love makes us feel more confident in facing people in our everyday lives. It adds up to our self-esteem, and makes us bolder. The downside however, is that sometimes we make it define who we are. That without perfect hair, we’re not as confident. That shouldn’t be the case at all. Perfect hair or not, it shouldn’t completely define who we are. Having gorgeous hair is nice, I admit, but it shouldn’t be all about it. Hair Appreciate Day is good, but we must learn to appreciate things about us more important than hair.
